Our Roasting Process

At Planet Bean, roasting is where craftsmanship meets responsibility.

Every coffee begins with carefully sourced green beans selected for quality, traceability, and character. From there, the process moves to our Guelph roastery, where President and Director of Coffee Andrew Loveland leads roast development with precision and care.


GUIDED BY EXPERIENCE

Andrew oversees every batch of specialty coffee we produce. Roasting is never automated and forgotten. It is monitored, adjusted, and refined in real time.

As green beans move through controlled heat and airflow, we track temperature curves, colour development, aroma, and first crack. Each coffee has its own ideal profile. Our goal is not to over-roast or mask the original character, but to highlight balance, sweetness, and clarity.


SMALL BATCH ROASTING IN GUELPH

We roast in small batches to maintain consistency and control. This hands-on approach allows for micro adjustments that protect quality from batch to batch.


When a roast reaches peak development, the beans are cooled quickly to preserve flavour. They are then rested properly before being packaged fresh for brewing at home, in cafés, or in workplaces.



QUALITY YOU CAN TASTE

Roasting does not end when the beans leave the drum. We cup and evaluate our coffees regularly to ensure they express exactly what they should, whether that means bright fruit notes from a single origin or rich chocolate depth from one of our signature blends.
